Daycroft Montessori School to Offer “Montessori Fundays” Again This Fall

Introductory Lessons Show Parents and Their Children Ages 18 Months to Three Years How Daycroft’s Student-Centered Approach Makes Learning Fun and Effective

Ann Arbor, MI (June 28, 2010) – Open enrollment for the fall 2010 series of “Montessori Fundays” at Daycroft Montessori School of Ann Arbor will begin on Tuesday, July 6.

Montessori Fundays is a continuing program introducing parents and their children ages 18 months to three years to the highly personalized approach to learning at Daycroft.

On Montessori Fundays, a Daycroft teacher guides children through introductory lessons using Montessori materials. “This gives parents a real sense of the Daycroft educational approach in action,” said Michele Buchanan, Daycroft’s directory of preprimary education. “Parents see how learning can be fun and effective when their young children, guided by our teachers, make choices about what they learn.”

Fundays for Two or Three Days per Week

Montessori Fundays for fall 2010 will begin the week of September 13, and will run through the week of December 13. There will, however, be no classes on October 20 and 21, and November 24, 25, and 26, in keeping with Daycroft’s fall breaks for parent-teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday.

Parents can choose from two Fundays sessions: three days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), or two days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). All Fundays lessons will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 am at Daycroft’s Preprimary Campus at 100 E. Oakbrook Dr., in the Briarwood Mall area.

The cost per child will be $780 for the three-days-per-week class (39 lessons in all), or $520 for the two-days-per-week class (26 lessons in all). Registration is limited to 10 children per class.

“A Popular Program – It Fills Quickly”

Daycroft has held two Montessori Fundays series so far – one in the January-February 2010 time frame, and the other in April-May 2010, “Both series,” said Buchanan, “were resounding successes. Many parents whose children were in the first series re-enrolled their children for the second series, and a few are coming back in fall.”

Per Buchanan, “This is a popular program – it fills quickly.”

Getting an early taste of the Montessori educational approach can help smooth the transition to a Montessori preschool for a young student. As Buchanan noted, “Several students who participated in Montessori Fundays here earlier this year are now enrolled to begin preschool at Daycroft this fall.”

Enrollment for Fall, with Spring Series to Follow

Open enrollment for Montessori Fundays in fall has been preceded by in-house enrollment for students who attended previous Fundays sessions or who are siblings of current Daycroft students. In-house enrollment will end on Friday, July 2.

Daycroft plans to continue Montessori Fundays in the spring 2011 term, with series of lessons running from January through May. The exact Fundays dates and other details for spring are to be announced.

Parents interested in registering their children or getting more information about Montessori Fundays may contact Daycroft’s Preprimary Campus at (734) 930-0333. Email: micheleb@daycroft.org.
