Lindamood-Bell’s Reading Skills Programs, Begun at Daycroft Montessori School in Summer 2009, to Continue throughout 2009-10 School Year
Ann Arbor, MI (October 15, 2009) – Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes (www.lindamoodbell.com), an internationally recognized leader in literacy research, remediation, and professional development, continues to provide special reading skills instruction at Daycroft Montessori School of Ann Arbor.
This past summer, Lindamood-Bell ran an intensive learning clinic, open to all, at Daycroft’s Elementary School Campus at 1095 N. Zeeb Rd. Just over half of the 15 summer program attendees were Daycroft students.
“The results were excellent,” says Joel Cheney, Lindamood-Bell’s center director for the seasonal intensive learning clinic. “Many of the students raised their reading comprehension scores by two grade levels or more.”
Now Lindamood-Bell offers reading instruction, by appointment, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm each weekday at Daycroft Zeeb. Some students are receiving follow-up instruction from last summer, while others are new enrollees.
The instruction continues to be available to all students, of any age, whether from the Daycroft community or elsewhere.
Developing Sensory Connection to Language
Lindamood-Bell’s instruction develops the underlying skills necessary for reading, spelling, and comprehension. It has been shown to be effective for individuals with learning difficulties including those previously diagnosed with the symptoms of dyslexia, hyperlexia, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.
Per Cheney, “Our programs develop a person’s sensory connection to language. We focus on process-based, intensive instruction, rather than content-based, subject-specific tutoring. The methods we use change the way students learn to read words and process information, which can make a significant difference in an individual’s learning in a relatively short time period.”
Lindamood-Bell begins with an evaluation of the individual student’s reading skills. The evaluation, normally priced at $645, will be free for Daycroft students throughout the 2009-10 school year, as a reward for the school’s hosting of the program. For non-Daycroft students, Lindamood-Bell’s Ann Arbor center at Daycroft Zeeb is offering the evaluation for a discounted rate of $295 through the end of October 2009.
Pricing for post-evaluation learning sessions ranges from as little as $39 per hour for a group of three students, to up to $88 per hour for one-on-one learning.
Slots remain open for new students. For more information, or to enroll, Joel Cheney may be contacted at (248) 723-5380 or annarborinfo@lblp.com.
