Daycroft Parents Become Montessori Students for a Night
ANN ARBOR, MI (October 2, 2007) – For one autumn evening, Daycroft parents got the chance to be Montessori students themselves.
On October 2, Daycroft Montessori School hosted “A Night of Montessori,” a special evening for parents to learn about the Montessori-style preschool and kindergarten programs at the school’s Oakbrook Drive campus.
Parents experienced the Daycroft program just as their children do every day, sitting on child-sized chairs or “criss-cross” on the circle on the rug, listening and watching as the teacher presented, and trying out the classroom’s Montessori works on their own.
Classroom areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Culture (Geography, History, and Science) were described, children’s activities from each area were presented, and the parents tried out the activities.
At the evening’s end, parents assumed their adult roles again and volunteered to provide ongoing help in their children’s classrooms – all in all, a highly successful result.
Daycroft extends thanks to the parents who participated, the staff who prepared the program, and the children who loaned their classrooms for a night.
Daycroft Montessori School began as a preschool program in 1968. Since then, Daycroft has grown to include a full-day Kindergarten program, an elementary school program through 6th grade, before-school and after-school care, a summer program, and a variety of enrichment classes.
