Daycroft’s “Movies in the Park” Bring Summer Night Fun to Saline’s Mill Pond Park

Ann Arbor, MI (June 22, 2007) – Remember going to a drive-in movie on a warm summer night with your parents? Playing on the swings and eating popcorn and snacks in the twilight while you waited for darkness to fall?

Today that experience was recreated in Saline’s Mill Pond Park for the first of several “Movies in the Park” to be sponsored by Daycroft Montessori School this summer.

Daycroft provided activities, crafts, and art making for the many families that set up their lawn chairs and waited for the movie to begin. A community weaving project provided lots of artistic display as individuals contributed to the not-yet-final product. All of the different materials added to the unique texture and the design evolved as each child discovered a new material to use.

Flying balsa airplanes through a hoop or landing on a target was another favorite activity for both parents and children. Some children and parents enjoyed creating dinosaur designs using stencils provided by Daycroft; they were delighted to take the stencils home.
Montessori activities such as color matching and matching cylinders of different sizes to the matching holes were a favorite with the youngest crowd. Older children found the “Balancing Nails” activity an interesting challenge, and joined in to offer possible solutions to their friends.

Daycroft Montessori School began as a preschool program in 1968. Since then, Daycroft has grown to include a full-day Kindergarten program, an elementary school program through 6th grade, before-school and after-school care, a summer program, and a variety of enrichment classes.
