Daycroft Montessori School is thrilled to offer many exciting after-school enrichment programs for Fall 2009. Enrollment began on August 31, 2009 and will continue. Please note that:

  • All programs are held at our Zeeb Elementary Campus, except Black Belt Academy, which is offered at both Zeeb and our Oakbrook Preprimary Campus.
  • Some classes have a minimum and/or maximum number of students.
  • No classes are held on non-school days.

Homework Club with Niki Buchanan

Grades 3 to 6
This offers a quiet place for your child to do homework with a teacher.

Vehicles Engineering and Building

8 years old to Grade 6
Using very advanced LEGO parts and pieces, this very exciting class has students building 13 different vehicles capped off with a final project. Some of these vehicles haven`t even been invented in the “real” world yet! Projects include: Adjustable Crane, Bobcat, Flipper Car, Forklift, Inch-worm Car, Motor Cycle, Motorized Wheelchair, Rally (race) Car, Riding Mower, Scissor Car, Space Cruiser, Steamroller, and Submarine.

Junior Vehicles

Kindergarten to 7 years old
Using very advanced LEGO parts and pieces, this very exciting class is appropriate for children from kindergarten through 7 years of age. Students build 14 different vehicles. Some of these vehicles haven`t even been invented in the “real” world yet! Projects include: Car, Golf Cart, Model “A” Ford, Semi Truck and Trailer, Rubber Band Trigger Car, Snow Plow, Motorized Shopping Cart, Stand Up Scooter, Three Wheeler, Tow Truck, Trick Car, Wagon, Wheel Barrow, and Zamboni. Students should be in kindergarten or be able to count to 20 and know their colors and shapes.

Yoga for Kids!

Grades K to 3
This is a fun, interactive class to encourage children to connect their minds and bodies with their breath. Movement through postures, stories, games, songs, and breathing techniques, along with relaxation and visualizations, are part of their yoga experience. This class helps to increase self-awareness and self-confidence, strengthen bodies, and improve physical coordination, while encouraging awareness of spirit. Adele Kieras RYT, MA has been teaching yoga to children and adults since 2000. She is a YogaEd Teacher and Teacher Trainer as well as a Radiant Child Instructor. Adele is also a certified Montessori teacher and public school teacher, and holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition.

Running

Grades 3 to 6
An experienced long-distance runner, adolescent and adult coach, experienced mentor, and passionate and successful runner, Mandi Tuite, will lead your child through a 12-week program. Mandi will use a variety of running activities, games, and workouts to help your child learn how to live healthy lifestyles, make healthy choices, understand the importance of fitness, achieve personal running goals, and finish a 5K run successfully. Your child’s program will end with a 5K event, celebration dinner, and award ceremony. Your child will feel accomplished to understand what principles and practices are needed to have a healthy personal image, and how to work hard as a successful, honorable team. So come run with us.

  • Dates: September 21 – December 10 (no class on Wednesday, November 25)

  • Fee: $130 (includes: 24 workouts, with a certified running coach and instructor, running incentives, snacks, celebration, t-shirt, water bottle, and a 5K-event registration. Late registration will be good through October 2, 2009)

UpBeats – Jump Rope Team

Grades 3 to 6
Come and join a fun and exciting team! Kids learn jumping techniques and routines in a positive and fun atmosphere.

Black Belt Academy

Ages 3 to 5 at our Oakbrook Preprimary Campus
Ages 6 to 12 at our Zeeb Elementary Campus
Our program will teach your child how to act and react positively in many situations. Our positive approach to teaching will help some children to channel aggression while encouraging others to be more assertive. Through their training, children can expect to get regular exercise and improve coordination and motor skills, while learning self-defense skills and non-violent problem solving techniques. Children reach higher levels of academic achievement, develop good manners, and learn the value of respect.

Girlz Club

Have fun making new friends, learning games and making crafts. Girlz Club is an opportunity for girls to socialize and be creative. Every year we have fun and get great ideas for new games and crafts. During Girlz Club we talk about social issues and school, and we find ways to build self-esteem. Come join us for Friday Fun!

Enjoy a calm and relaxing afternoon where painters will be supported in exploring ways of using color and form to create art for which they will feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Saturday child/parent class opportunity
The “Stick to Spanish” program was designed to fill an enormous need in the Spanish learning market. Children will have fun while learning a foreign language. We have methods that will increase your child’s vocabulary and help him/her speak Spanish! The magic of this course is that in 10 weeks your child will finish the Stick to Spanish 1 book. Your child’s progress will be monitored. Once mastery of Stick to Spanish 1 is complete, we will immediately introduce Stick to Spanish 2. Come join us for some fun!

Chess

Come join Ray Garrison, one of Michigan’s top 100 rated tournament chess players! Mr. Garrison has been teaching chess to children since 1996. New and experienced students will learn basic tactics and checkmating patterns, opening strategies and basic endings. There will be a practice tournament the last few weeks of class. New students should add $14 for a workbook.
