Underlying Principles
of Daycroft’s Curriculum

Child-Centered – Our curriculum reflects the interests, needs, abilities, and natural learning styles of children. We believe that the program should fit the students; the students should not be expected to fit the program.

Balance – There is a commitment to meeting the needs of the whole child with learning opportunities for social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development.

Relevance – The curriculum contributes to the student’s overall development and is relevant to what they need today, with preparation, as well as to what they will need in the future.

• Scope and Sequence – Students need a broad exposure and a wide range of activities to develop all their special talents and interests. Our program goes from simple to complex, and from concrete to abstract. Skills build upon each other in a spiral of learning.
• Integration – Integrated learning gives wholeness to students. Applications and connections across all content areas enhance meaning in learning. Skills are reinforced with “hands on” experiences as the integration of all modalities increases understanding and knowledge.
• Interest – When students are interested and challenged, they will learn and be excited about school. Each child is allowed to learn and grow at his or her own pace regardless of chronological age.
