New Head of School Announcement
Dear Daycroft Community,
It is with great excitement and honor to be named Daycroft’s next Head of School. After
twenty-one years in San Francisco, my family and I are excited to begin a new chapter in Ann
Arbor as a Daycroft family. During my visit I was impressed by the student interactions and the
richness of learning that was taking place in the classrooms. The student-centered learning
was evident in every class I observed. The depth of understanding and the focus was unlike
any elementary school I’ve seen.
From my observations in the various classrooms, it is evident that Daycroft is a special school
that has a wonderful culture as a progressive school inspired by the Montessori principles where
the children are at the center of learning and where teachers carefully craft their lessons. In my
discussions with several families on both the Oakbrook and Zeeb Campus during my visit, I
heard and felt the passion that families have about their children’s teachers, their education, and
the close-knit community at Daycroft. I heard from board members who described Daycroft as a
special place where their children flourished as individuals and commented on how well
prepared their children were for high school and beyond. My wife Angela and I are thrilled to
know that our sons Alexander and Nicholas will thrive in the Daycroft environment.
We look forward to meeting you all in the coming school year. We are excited to call Ann Arbor
our new home, and I am excited to partner with the faculty, students and families of Daycroft. I
am grateful to the Search Committee and Ed Hollinger for the time they spent with me
answering all my questions and the care they put into the search process. The school has been
in great hands with Ed at the helm, and we have already begun our almost weekly calls to help
with my transition and arrival this summer. I look forward to meeting you soon.
